I got home tonight at 9:30pm and Layla was still awake… Still awake and still full of energy. It being a Friday, I was more than happy to let her stay up. The later she stays up tonight, the longer we sleep in tomorrow. Plus, it gave me a chance to play with her for a little bit before bedtime (which is right now, 11pm
)
I guess now is a good time to mention that somewhere in the last month or two, Layla has acquired to ability to somersault. She’s gotten really good at it too. And she knows it! The only reason I bring this up is because that’s what she wanted to do tonight…
Now, normally, when she somersaults with me watching, she tucks and rolls and I’m just there to catch her in case she ends up veering off course. The same was true for tonight. She was on the couch, somersaulting from one side to the next while I stood and watched, cheering her gymnastic feats.
Except one time.
One time, she tucked her head down and instead of somersaulting, she stopped. I leaned over to see what was wrong and BAM! Instead of tucking and rolling, she decided to jump up, connecting the hardest part of her skull with the softest spot of my nose.
As I held back the language (and the tears), Layla laughed… all the while Tamie wondered why I was hopping around holding my face. When the blood started pouring out my nostril, Tamie finally understood what, if not how it, had happened.
Layla, on the other hand, asked me if it was ketchup. I had to laugh. She proceeded to apologize between somersaults while I found a tissue to dry my tears and stem my bleeding.
What a little cutie. For now.
